TRE® : Add a Powerful Somatic Tool to your coaching practice
Self-paced · Fully online · Start anytime
Every coach knows that client. The one who’s motivated, self-aware, doing the work — and still not moving. They want to change. They can articulate exactly what’s in the way. And yet something keeps them stuck, session after session.
Often, that something lives in the body.
TRE® gives you a way in.
TRE® (Tension & Trauma Releasing Exercises) is a somatic tool used by coaches, therapists, bodyworkers, and healthcare professionals in over 60 countries. It works by activating the body’s own built-in mechanism for releasing stress and tension — quickly, gently, and without requiring clients to process or talk through their history.
The effects are immediate and tangible: a calmer nervous system, greater emotional availability, and a stronger capacity to engage with the work of coaching. Clients who have been stuck for months start to move. Sessions go deeper. Results last longer.
It complements your existing approach without requiring a clinical background, works in 1:1 and group settings, and can be taught to clients as a self-regulation practice they use independently between sessions.
TRE® was developed by Dr. David Berceli, PhD – a trauma specialist whose decades of work across cultures and conflict zones led him to recognize the body’s natural tremor response as a powerful, underutilized healing mechanism. The method uses a short series of simple exercises to activate this tremor reflex. The response is involuntary – it doesn’t require concentration, visualization, or emotional processing – which makes it accessible to almost anyone, including clients who struggle with traditional relaxation or mindfulness approaches.
The Neurogenic Integration TRE® Provider Certification is a comprehensive, self-paced online training program that prepares you to safely and professionally facilitate TRE® in individual and group settings. The program is endorsed by Dr. David Berceli and delivered through Neurogenic Integration — a global online education platform dedicated to advancing the understanding and professional application of neurogenic tremoring.
The program is organized into three core modules
Module 1 — Foundational Knowledge
Nervous system science, the history and development of TRE®, trauma-informed principles, safety and scope of practice, and the ethical foundations of somatic facilitation.
Module 2 — Individual TRE® Facilitation
How to guide clients through the TRE® process safely, how to track nervous system states, how to respond to overwhelm, contraindications, pacing, and integration — all within a clear professional framework.
Module 3 — Group TRE® Facilitation and Professional Practice
Facilitation mechanics for groups, ethics in group settings, client record-keeping, and the business of building TRE® into your practice. This module brings everything together and prepares you for real-world professional facilitation.
This certification is designed for coaches and allied practitioners who want to expand their skill set with a somatic, body-based approach. It’s particularly well suited to:
No prior experience with TRE® or somatic work is required.

His training includes Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems, NARM, Brainspotting, Structural Integration, and the Feldenkrais Method, combined with three years of monastic contemplative training at Chozen-ji Zen Temple in Honolulu.
Siv Jøssang Shields
Siv Jøssang Shields brings over 30 years of clinical experience as a Doctor of Chiropractic, with advanced academic training in biology and physiology. A Certified TRE® Provider since 2010, she has guided individuals and groups through the neurogenic tremor process locally and internationally. She is also a Master Soma Breath Instructor, Certified Hypnotherapist, and HeartMath Practitioner with Trauma-Sensitive certification. Siv is known for her ability to make complex nervous-system science accessible, and for creating a learning environment that is warm, safe, and scientifically grounded.
This program is fully self-paced and 100% online – no fixed dates, no cohort schedules, no deadlines. Most students complete the program in 4 to 12 months, dedicating approximately 1 to 3 hours per week alongside their personal TRE® practice.
Because embodied understanding is central to becoming a skilled facilitator, your own TRE® practice is an integral part of the training – not optional coursework.
Certification is granted upon demonstrated readiness, not just course completion. Your trainers provide individualized feedback and mentoring throughout, so you’re supported every step of the way.
Enrollment begins with a short application – it takes about 10 minutes and is not a test. It simply helps your trainers understand where you’re coming from so they can support you well from day one. You’ll receive a response within a couple of days.

Who is the Neurogenic Integration TRE® Certification for?
The Neurogenic Integration TRE® Certification is designed for professionals and individuals who want to understand, embody, and safely guide the neurogenic tremor process. This includes healthcare and wellness practitioners, coaches, therapists, counsellors, bodyworkers, physiotherapists, yoga teachers, movement professionals, first-responders, support workers, and individuals on a personal growth path. Leaders and facilitators who want to guide groups through safe, regulated nervous-system practices also belong here. No prior experience with TRE® or somatic work is required.
What kind of work can I do as a Certified TRE® Provider?
TRE® is an extremely powerful tool for trauma recovery and stress regulation, and is effective in aiding athletic recovery, managing chronic pain, addressing burnout and compassion fatigue, and in end-of-life care. Many spiritual seekers, such as yoga practitioners and meditators, use it to expand somatic and emotional awareness. TRE® can be seamlessly integrated into a broad range of healing professions, including bodywork, psychotherapy, somatic therapy, yoga therapy, chiropractic, coaching, and medicine.
Generally students average about 1 to 3 hours per week of work towards certification in addition to maintaining a consistent training practice. Each module is self-paced learning consisting of online videos as well as reading. You will also be required to complete nine one-on-one calls with your trainer and mentor for personal sessions and practice video reviews. In addition there are monthly live gatherings (3 hours). You are required to attend a minimum of four of these.
What does the live experiential classroom involve?
We hold monthly 3-hour live online sessions with demonstrations, facilitated tremoring, Q&A, and group supervision. A minimum of four attended live sessions is required to graduate. These give you the opportunity to feel the work in your own body and practice guiding others in real time.
What does the 1:1 mentorship include?
You will complete nine one-on-one calls with your trainer and mentor – personal sessions to deepen your own tremoring practice, plus video reviews of your facilitation as you begin working with clients. This is where theoretical understanding becomes practical, embodied skill.
What is the Neurogenic Integration Membership, and is it included?
Yes, every certification student receives a full year of Neurogenic Integration Membership at no extra cost. The membership includes weekly live tremoring classes across multiple time zones, free workshops and classes throughout the year, access to facilitators from every corner of the world (each with different clinical training, backgrounds, and styles), and a global community of practitioners to learn alongside. For someone training to facilitate, the ability to watch this work taught from many angles by many different people is invaluable.
