How coaching cards open up deeper conversations

Coaching cards can open up what words alone cannot. Discover the Added Values cards.

Feelings are not always easy to put into words. A client who is struggling may describe it as “stress” or say they are “not feeling quite themselves”. Those words may be partly right, but they do not always bring the conversation closer to what is really going on.

Values can feel just out of reach too. Someone knows that freedom matters to them, yet keeps choosing security. Or halfway through the conversation, they realise: “I’ve been missing this for much longer than I thought.”

Sometimes it helps to move the conversation out of the client’s head.

This is where coaching cards can shift something. Not because a card provides the answer, but because it places something tangible in front of the client. A word. An image. Something to look at, rather than something they have to keep thinking through.

What happens when you place something on the table

A card does not demand an answer. It invites recognition.

That is a small but important difference. A client does not have to perform for a card. They can look, choose, hesitate, put it back and perhaps pick it up again.

Sometimes someone says: “I don’t really want to choose this card, but it is telling me something.”

That is often the moment something starts to move.

Something that might have stayed hidden after a direct question can surface almost by itself. That is what makes coaching cards so useful. Not as a replacement for conversation, but as a way into a conversation that might otherwise remain out of reach.

The Added Values cards

The Added Values cards help clients explore the values that shape their choices, work, boundaries and motivation.

Often, the most revealing part is the hesitation: choosing a card, putting it back, then returning to it. In career coaching, a value can reveal why a role looks right on paper but still feels empty. When exploring boundaries, a client may discover that saying no is not the whole issue; it may be about staying true to rest, autonomy or self-respect. When motivation is the question, a card can help someone name what they have been missing for some time but have not yet been able to express.

For clients who know something is bothering them but cannot yet identify what it is, one card may provide exactly the opening they need.

Sometimes that is enough.
